It’s hard to fathom but here we are, at the midway point of the year 2024. Congratulations and I’m sorry.
With that in mind, and an already-juicy six months of incredible indie games behind us, I wanted to take a quick (see: very long) look at the rest of the year ahead. Spoiler alert: There are still loads of exciting indie joints to come in the back half of 2024, with small projects from tiny teams right up to more ambitious efforts from slightly larger studios still doing it independent.
A couple of things to note about this list. Firstly, yes, describing a game as “indie” comes with different connotations depending on who you ask – the below list no doubt includes some games being published by larger labels, so it was more about the teams themselves. You won’t find any “AA” or “AAA” here, though (there’s another article for those).
I’ve also tried to only include games that where a release target of 2024 is explicit, so if there’s anything that seems obviously missing it could just be a case of too much ambiguity there. The good news with that is there are so many more amazing-looking indie games slated for 2025 and beyond. And for clarity’s sake, the game descriptions below are all official ones from the studios or publishers, as much as I’d love to have personally gushed about each one below it’s a lot of games for one little me to write about.
